November 2018 Volunteer of the Month: Jordan Okrend

This month we are appreciating Jordan Okrend as our Volunteer of the Month. Jordan has shown up fully to assist in the varied projects that it took to get the Karma Cafe up and running. He could be found here multiple days a week generously giving his time to make this vision a reality. We are grateful to have Jordan as a part of our community. Thank you Jordan for perpetuating  the sense of community that we offer here by helping to build a way to break bread and further connect with one another! Learn a bit about this great volunteer here:

What was the experience with yoga that got you hooked? It was more of a calling then any single experience. After turbulent life events in 2012/13 I knew I wanted to start a practice for yoga and meditation. Since beginning my Yoga practice I have always felt the urge to go deeper and continue onwards!

What inspires you to continue yoga? The path of understanding myself and my body.

What is your favorite pose? Plow, Wheel and Plank

What is your most challenging pose? Crow

What is your favorite time/place to practice? I like to practice in the morning right after I wake up, I like to practice in my room and of course at Asheville Community Yoga 🙂

How has yoga changed your life? Yoga has allowed me to be more in tune with myself and to experience the energies within.

What are 3 words you would use to describe yourself? Creative, Spontaneous, Easy Going

Is there a recurring theme that runs through your yoga practice? Let Go

What is your mantra? Om

Do you have a passion other than yoga you’d like to share about? I am a professional Musician and Singer/songwriter. Music is my main passion in life! You can check out my stuff at www.Jordanokrend.com

How did you find Asheville Community Yoga? My family introduced it to me before I moved to Asheville when I was visiting.

If you haven’t met Jordan yet, introduce yourself next time you see him! Thanks for being a part of our community Jordan!
