Many thanks to Joe Weaver, our March Volunteer of the Month! Joe’s handy work around the studio is nothing short of amazing. His woodworking and floor laying skills for our expansion project are so appreciated. Joe gives generously of his time and is humble in his efforts. Asheville Community Yoga would not be as beautiful as it is today without his help!
What was the experience with yoga that got you hooked? The tone that Asheville Community Yoga has set since first stepping through the door. Being around such warm, welcoming, and genuine folks; it’s easy to keep returning to a space that’s free from judgement.
What inspires you to continue yoga? There hasn’t been one time leaving the mat after practice where I didn’t feel rejuvenated and at peace. My yoga practice began at Asheville Community Yoga last June, so I’m a newcomer. There wasn’t really one experience that inspired me to continue yoga, but a gradual building of experiences with the wonderful teachers who give their time and wisdom, the students who come with a desire to explore and learn, and the beautiful space that is provided for us. Besides these reasons, I’m inspired to continue yoga in order to improve my strength, flexibility, and balance. It is so important as we age to maintain a healthy body, which in turn keeps the mind in better balance.
How has yoga changed your life? Yoga has been influential in quieting my mind, I honestly think I do it more for that reason than any other.
Is there a recurring theme that runs through your yoga practice? Patience. Being ok with where I am day to day and not beating myself up if I’m not where I think I should be.
How did you find Asheville Community Yoga? My wife, Meredith, introduced me to yoga and this great space. She embodies many Yogic qualities that inspire me to follow in her footsteps.
Thank you for your support Joe, and we are grateful to be able to support you on your journey. If you see Joe around the studio, working on a project or at a class, make sure to say hello.
