If you haven’t yet heard, we are partnering with Sundara Yoga Therapy to bring two trauma informed yoga therapy trainings to our community. We are thrilled to be offering these continuing education opportunities and would love to share with you a little more about what they are and why they are important.
In this blog we will walk you through:
- What is Yoga Therapy?
- Why being Trauma Informed is Important
- The focus of this training
WHAT IS YOGA THERAPY?
Yoga Therapy is a whole person integrated approach to health and wellness. It is widely recognized and accepted within the most up-to-date medical and mental health communities. Yoga Therapy brings the ancient insights of yoga into modern wellness programs, utilizing modern scientific, medical and mental health knowledge, for self-healing.
WHY BEING TRAUMA INFORMED IS IMPORTANT
People can and do experience various traumas throughout their lives. Using a trauma informed approach in all aspects of your life, as a yoga professional, a healthcare professional, a student and simply a member of society helps all of us create safe, accepting and respectful environments. It should not be necessary for a person to disclose past painful experiences in order to feel safe. Together, we can work to create the environment and safe space we desire for ourselves and through trainings, ensure we are providing the same space for others.
Sundara Yoga Therapy adheres to Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s (SAMHSA) standards in Trauma Informed Care. The course content is structured to fulfill the nationally recognized principles of trauma informed care as defined by SAMHSA.
Becoming Trauma Informed helps us become the change we wish to see in the world.
The focus of these trainings is to educate participants about trauma and provide evidence-based self-care tools to assist others in the healing of unresolved trauma, guiding them on the path to recovery and resiliency. We are offering Level 1- Earth Element and Level 2 – Water Element trainings here at Asheville Community Yoga. You can learn more about each specific training here.
