What was the experience with yoga that got you hooked?
Once I took my first class at Asheville Community Yoga I was hooked! The space was so new and beautiful to me. I felt welcomed, and the Gentle Flow class I took was so sweet and perfect for a beginner like me at the time. My mind, body, and soul felt so good afterwards and I knew in my heart that there was something special about the practice of yoga.
What inspires you to continue yoga?
When I show up to my yoga practice I feel as if I am showing up for myself. When I neglect my practice, I feel as if I am neglecting myself. Yoga brings me back home to myself and that will always inspire me to get on my mat.
What is your favorite pose?
Child’s Pose. For me, this pose is like my nest. The place where I come back and reconnect with myself. I also love Goddess pose.
What is your most challenging pose?
Pigeon! When I first started going to yoga this pose was my worst nightmare. I dreaded it! Now after a year of practicing yoga my hips are open, and I can dive into this pose with ease. Pigeon has shown me how far I have come on my yoga journey. Each pose gets easier with time.
What is your favorite time/place to practice?
I love the warm vinyasa evening classes at Asheville Community Yoga. I always sleep so well afterwards!
How has yoga changed your life?
It has changed my life in so many ways. I honestly have no idea what I did before I started yoga. It has brought me closer to myself and with others. I sleep better, and my anxiety levels have decreased tremendously. I know that I am always just one yoga class away from feeling better emotionally, spiritually, and physically. It truly is a blessing. I think it is the key to life.
What are 3 words you would use to describe yourself?
Sweet, intentional, and loving.
Is there a recurring theme that runs through your yoga practice?
If you could just share one practice that has helped you the most, what would it be?
Staying positive and seeing the good in everyone. There is always light at the end of the tunnel and the sun is always shining above the clouds. When we see all people with the eyes of Love, our hearts will know peace.
What is your current or all-time favorite song or artist for a yoga playlist?
Inner Peace by Beautiful Chorus (Thank you Lauren for showing me and always playing it in class) I also love I am Light by India Arie.
What is your mantra?
My heart is my compass. I let it lead the way. I speak my truth with confidence and ease. I am here to give and receive love and to also spread my light to everyone I meet on my journey.
Do you have a passion other than yoga you’d like to share about?
I have a loving passion for essential oils. I am an essential oil educator and it is what I study and teach throughout my week. I never get tired of learning about each one and the amazing healing benefits that they have. I always have my oils on me, and you can smell me coming from miles away.
How did you find Asheville Community Yoga?
I was thrift shopping at Zen & Now when it was across the street back in 2016. I found out about the Zen & Now in the Mountain Express! It was voted one of the top thrift shops in Asheville, so I had to check it out. When I arrived, I noticed that Asheville Community Yoga was across the street! I had been wondering where it was. The awesome lady who checked me out told me I should try out a yoga class so the next week I did, and it was the best decision I ever made.
Do you have a spirit animal? If so, what is it?
I would say my spirit animal is a butterfly. I feel so connected to them and they always seem to make themselves known to me when I am outside. I love the transformation they go through and they are so beautiful!
Thanks so much for being a part of our community Samantha!
