Donny Kenney is our Student of the Month for March! We appreciate the way that he shows up consistently and energetically for himself and is excited to try new things like Black Light Yoga. From the moment that he walks through the door, his positivity and gentleness can be felt by all of us. Thank you Donny for your lightheartedness and for all of the sweet gifts that you have brought in to share with staff and teachers. We would also like to express our gratitude for you sharing your love of Asheville Community Yoga and Karma Cafe with your friends and family! To learn more about Donny read on!
My first experience with yoga was 10 years ago in Kennebunk Maine, I had a wonderful teacher named David with only five students. I was with David for year before I moved on to a larger class with a woman from Switzerland, she was a wonderful teacher and I’ll never forget her. I decided to try something else so I moved my attention to tai chi and did that for two years. Two years ago when I moved to Asheville I decided to get back into yoga and found the wonderful space called Asheville Community Yoga! I found Asheville community yoga online and grateful I did every day. What inspires me to continue yoga is the wonderful sense of community I found with you wonderful kind friendly people. The first thing I do when I walk in the door is smile and am always met with two or more smiles, that makes my day.
My favorite pose right now is pigeon pose but if I expand my yoga this pose could change, that’s the wonderful part of yoga it’s a living being and always changing. I have many challenging poses but I guess right now I would have to say plank pose. I enjoy different times to practice but mostly morning and early afternoon are my best times. I think yoga has made me a better and definitely a happier person, I just feel such peace when I’m doing yoga. I love all of my gentle flow classes, it gives me the confidence to do well but also encourages me to push my limits. I love OM chanting, I fantasize I’m in the monastery in Nepal with the monks, very inspirational for me. I have a few favorite classes, I love my senior class on Monday and also restorative yoga on Friday afternoon. My most embarrassing time in a class was when I had my keys and wallet tucked into a blanket next to me and put it back in the prop wall. It took me and a few others about 10 minutes to find my keys and wallet.
Three words to describe me are mischievous, curious and humorous. A theme that runs through my life is to be kind and practice generosity. I feel like a very lucky person as I have a lot of interests and passions in my life: Most important to me would be my love for classical music and my two beautiful dogs and my love for playing in the dirt, my Garden is very important to me. My spirit animal is the wolf: strong, proud and free.
Considering how many blankets we have, it’s quite amazing it only took 10 minutes to find your keys and wallet! We’re glad they didn’t end up in the lost & found 🙂 Thank you for sharing Donny! We so appreciate you. If you haven’t met Donny yet, be sure to introduce yourself around the studio next time you see him.
