September Service Project – Taking Our Yoga Off the Mat
Throughout the month of September
There is so much more to our yoga practice than our asana on the mat. In keeping with the International Day of Peace, we are asking our community to reach out to others. There are endless ways to practice Seva Yoga, the yoga of selfless service. How can you take your yoga off the mat?
- Connect with a friend in need by taking them food, going for a walk together, having some tea, or simply holding space while they share
- Volunteer at one of the many agencies around Asheville, depending upon what resonates most with you, helping the homeless, victims of domestic violence, abandoned or abused animals, or the elderly population who often simply just need someone to spend a bit of time with them.
- Find little ways to be more present with others: offering to take their grocery cart back to the store, helping weed their garden or mow their lawn, letting people in while driving in traffic or allowing someone to go ahead of you in line at the store. There are endless ways to help others! Even offering to clean someone’s mat or put their props away while you are here for practice.
Post about your Random Acts of Yoga on our Facebook page and inspire others to do the same. It’s contagious and you’ll find it to be one of the most rewarding parts of your practice!
When you’re at the center, there are also many ways to practice Seva Yoga.
