Some of you may recognize Michelle as a former staff member. Early last year, Michelle moved here from Hawaii with her husband Pat, and we were lucky enough to have her on staff as Outreach Coordinator before she began her present job as Wellness Coordinator for Mission Hospital. We are so grateful and very fortunate she is still serving our community by continuing to volunteer her time and immense therapeutic expertise to teach here!
Michelle received her initial teaching certification in 2009, and went on to become a Certified Yoga Therapist in 2014 through Inner Peace Yoga Therapy School. Before moving to Asheville, she she taught in a cancer center, providing classes and private sessions for oncology patients, cancer survivors, and their caregivers. Michelle is also passionate about serving active duty military members and veterans. She spent two years as a full-time yoga therapist in a pain management clinic of a military medical center, specializing in helping service men and women manage chronic pain and PTSD.
Michelle is a clear and compassionate teacher, specializing in gentle and therapeutic classes. She firmly believes that EVERYONE can practice yoga, and her classes are accessible and extremely beneficial to all kinds of bodies and levels of practice. Don’t be fooled by her calm demeanor and humility though – Michelle herself is a bit of a ninja, with a skill-set including aerial dance, hula-hooping, and even fire spinning! She has a rare ability to make hard things look easy, and to reveal the beauty in simple things. Her smile is like a ray of sunshine, and she is just altogether a joy to be around.
When Michelle is not working at Mission or teaching yoga, she enjoys spending time hiking and playing with her husband Pat and their adorable chi-weenie, Bacon.
Come check out Michelle’s class, Gentle Flow from 5:15 to 6:15 p.m. Wednesdays. You’ll be glad you did!
Michelle, thank you so very much for your generous spirit and selfless dedication to service! We are so lucky to have your bright light in our community, and we love and appreciate you!
