Wendy Mallett, Community Service Coordinator & Teacher Liaison

Sharing Yoga as a practice of compassionate, heart-opening, soul healing, mindful movement that transcends the mat in a studio, Wendy encourages her students to incorporate yoga into every part of their lives. Often playful, always heartfelt, her classes create an environment of acceptance and unconditional love of self and others.

As part of the early family of Asheville Community Yoga, Wendy is so grateful to be back in this ever-expanding space of love and devotion. It has been a beautiful journey of studying with many teachers including Erich Schiffmann, Doug Keller, Cora Wen, Rodney Yee, Paul Grilley and Seane Corn, but her greatest teachers have been her children and her students who have enlightened her life in the most remarkable way. Always grateful for the opportunity to share yoga, Wendy has over 2,000 hours of teaching experience. Certified in many different disciplines and styles of yoga, her classes vary from Gentle Flow, Yoga for Seniors to HOT Vinyasa, as well as Therapeutic Yoga and a fun Black Light Yoga class which incorporates yoga and dance. She serves as the Community Service Coordinator, organizing ways in which our students and teachers can reach out to the greater Asheville community through monthly service projects.  Wendy is a part of our Teacher Training program and is registered with Yoga Alliance as an E-RYT 200, YACEP (Yoga Alliance Continuing Education Provider), and is a member of IAYT, International Association of Yoga Therapists.

Gentle Morning Flow (All Levels, Beginners Welcome)

Sundays from 9:30 to 10:45 am

The peaceful pace of a Sunday morning offers an opportunity to soften into a more mindful, gentle practice. A beautiful way to ease into the day with a Gentle Flow practice, mindful breathing, and deeply relaxing Savasana. Options are given to make this class accessible to all levels. Beginners welcome.

Gentle Yoga  (All Levels, Beginners Welcome)

Sundays from 6:00 to 7:00 pm

Perfect for those new to yoga, each week we will focus on specific poses to bring strength, flexibility, and mindfulness to your practice. Beginning with healing breath work, we will move slowly and mindfully through our practice to create a sense of peace and well-being in body and mind. This class is suitable for anyone who feels a bit intimidated by coming to their first yoga class. More like a mini-workshop, we will dive deeper into the foundations of yoga – breathing, finding your safest, strongest alignment in poses, centering through mindfulness meditation, and creating space for a deeper connection to your highest self and those around you. All you need to bring is your smile!

Vinyasa Flow (L1&2)

Mondays from 8 to 9 am & 6:30 to 7:30 pm

Begin or finish your day with stretching deeply into your body and breath with intentional, individualized movement to bring greater awareness into what you are experiencing in body, breath and mind from moment to moment. A great way to begin your week, releasing tension and creating more space for acceptance, gratitude & joy.

Yoga for Seniors (Beginners Welcome)

Mondays from 11:45 am to 12:45 pm

Mindful movement and breathing are the focus of this class, specially designed for students who are 50 and up. Each practice will include ways in which you can incorporate yoga into your daily routine to reap the greatest long-term benefits. Props and individualized instruction help make this class suitable for all levels. With a touch of humor sprinkled in, you will find yourself smiling and energized, ready to embrace the day!


Tuesdays from 8:00 to 9:15 pm

Combining Vinyasa, Freedom Style, mindful breathing and playful enthusiasm, this class creates an opportunity to explore your practice in a whole new way. As the temperature of the room and body heat up, it allows for a deeper release and letting go. This class is challenging and not suitable for beginners. We will explore more advanced poses and sequences and encourage exploring your pose within the pose, making each practice uniquely your own. Bring a towel and be ready to sweat!  Set to a great playlist of music, the time will fly by quickly, ending with the blissful relaxation of a much deserved savasana.

Restorative Back Care Yoga (All Levels)

Thursdays from 2:30 to 3:35 pm 

Restorative Back Care Yoga is designed to provide a safe environment for individuals to modify poses to fit their specific needs. Focus on mindful movement, breathing, and being at ease creates a welcome space for discussion and a practice which is unique each time we come to our mats. Strengthening the core muscles which support the integrity of the spine are essential for maintaining our posture and overall health. This class is a lovely blend of Therapeutic, Yin, and Restorative Yoga, ending in a deeply relaxing Yoga Nidra practice. Ideal for those dealing with back & neck pain, specific injuries, neurological challenges, anxiety and chronic pain, students will find a healing environment in which to fully relax and experience a greater sense of connection to our breath with slow, mindful movement and resting poses.  If you’ve ever felt inhibited about attending a yoga class, this is a delightful place to begin your practice. (Please note: Please check in with Wendy before class if you have any specific needs that will require individualized modification, such as needing a chair or additional props to be at ease in your poses. You may email her or better yet, arrive 15 minutes early to go over what you need to be comfortable and safe in your practice)

Gentle Flow (All Levels, Beginners Welcome)

Fridays from 9:30 to 10:45 am

Moving mindfully with our breath, Gentle Flow Yoga will allow your body to release tension and create space for healing. Focusing on safely transitioning from one pose to the next which allows for a steady flow of prana through the body and organs, we will go through a series of seated, standing, and reclining postures. Suitable for Beginners, as well as Advanced students who are looking for a gentle, mindful practice.
