We are excited to announce that with the coming of Spring we welcome Nancy Allen’s photography. Her beautiful depictions of flowers are perfect as we see the world bloom around us. She is donating 100% of the sales of her work to our landscaping projects which will begin in May. Thank you Nancy for sharing your gorgeous art with us.
Here’s a bit about Nancy…
My parents gave me a camera for my birthday when I was 14 or 15. I loved taking pictures and have had a camera ever since, documenting family, my 5 children, and vacations. Fast forward more years than I like to count. I met this neat man (yes, that’s Jack) who in addition to sharing with me an interest in duplicate bridge also had an interest in photography. We started going out together to shoot and soon joined a camera club. That led to going on trips with other photographers and going to workshops to learn more tricks and techniques. While I don’t have the technical knowledge of a professional photographer I am able to “see” pictures in front of me and can usually capture what I see. I love all aspects of it, getting outside, finding the shot, and coming home to ‘develop’ what I saw. After awhile I saw that more than anything else I really enjoyed photographing flowers, they spoke to me, and while I still photograph other subjects, flowers are my favorite subject.
After working for the IRS and traveling to work in Paris and Puerto Rico, I retired in 1999 and moved to Charleston, SC, where I met Jack. Our love for the mountains of North Carolina drew us to Asheville and we settled here, enjoying our photography, hiking, and, of course, attending classes and events at Asheville Community Yoga. I have never been in such a caring, loving group, you all have been so welcoming it has made our move even sweeter.
