Jodie has been volunteering her skills here at Asheville Community Yoga for over a year now, and we are happy to announce that she has recently come on board as a staff member! In this time of transition for all of us, it is a huge blessing to have a bright light like Jodie join our team.
What inspires you to continue yoga?
Yoga inspires me to be open to infinite possibilities… in myself, in others, in our world. There is always more space to learn, grow and change, and yoga helps to inform my life through this ongoing process of thriving intuition. Yoga has been the constant in my life for over a decade, and I love being one of its students.
Is there a recurring theme that runs through your yoga practice?
Breath. Rising and falling, expanding and softening, releasing and receiving, in my breath and in all else.
If you could just share one practice that has helped you the most, what would it be?
Maitri (metta or lovingkindness) meditation. This practice continues to guide me in cultivating compassion, peace, and forgiveness.
What is your current or all-time favorite song or artist for a yoga playlist?
The next song you tell me about. Regular students in my classes are likely well aware of my love for Xavier Rudd, Ben Howard, Chet Faker, Trevor Hall, Deva Premal, Alexi Murdoch, and Sean Johnson & The Wild Lotus Band.
What is your mantra?
Lokah Samastah Sukhino Bhavantu. May all beings everywhere be happy and free, and may the thoughts, words, and actions of my own life contribute in some way to that happiness and to that freedom for all.
